Get the Silhouette
The Fur Insider did their research and discovered that the earliest decades of the 20h century (1910, 1920 and 1930) have seemingly blurred lines in the fashion world. Vogue’s shoot with Carey Mulligan spanned all three decades, so which silhouette is truly reflected of the Great Gatsby?
“The corseted looks of the 1910s and the slinky 1930s silhouettes hugged the body and played harmoniously to deliver a fluid silhouette, whereas the 1920s – as modern and innovative as they were – favored a much more square silhouette with an unusually low waistline (usually hovering around the pelvic area). Only in the late 20s, bordering on the 1930s, did a more natural waist emerge.”

Accessorize, the Old Fashion Way
It’s amazing how far we’ve come in the fashion world. In the 1920’s, no one wore faux fur or fake pearls. Everything was real, luxurious, and of the highest quality. Jewelry in the 1920s ranged from more traditional pieces, with influences of the previous decades’ art nouveau, to more bold, geometric pieces. And if you really want to get the look, go for the real deal. Accessories with materials the earth (like diamonds and fur) will last you a lifetime if you take care of them well.

Have it shortened
A long fur coat can be made shorter and excess material can be used to create pockets or details on the coat.

Have it taken in/out
A more tailored fit can be achieved if a coat is too bulky, and then of course we can also add more material to the coat if it’s too small for you.

Have shoulder work done
Softening the shoulders is a good option and will help give a fur coat a more modern and less structured look.

Turn it into a vest
We get many requests to turn old fur coats into vests, and this is a great idea for those who live in a warm climate that only dips to the 40s or so during the cold weather months.

Have it sheared

Add fur trim
You can add a different kind of fur as trim to make your coat a little more fun. Mixing textures is a very fashion-forward move. You can also add fur trim to a non-fur coat which will make it a more luxurious.

Add zippers or buttons
We can put some gorgeous buttons and clasps on a coat if you’re looking for that special touch, or we could add a zipper for shorter coats if you want it to look more like a jacket.

Add a hood
A fur hood will protect you from the harsh winter, this is ideal for people in very cold environments.

Line a non-fur coat
We can line just about any coat or jacket you have with warm, soft fur!

And any leftover fur from remodels can be turned into fur stoles, scarves, collar, hats, earmuffs, purse, throw, pillow cover… whatever your heart desires!

If you’re into fashion, you understand the importance of balancing texture. Texture is what brings an outfit to life! And fur isn’t the only texture we love. Leather, lace, silk, jacquard, needlepoint, feather, chiffon, and beaded embellishment are all ways to step up your texture game. Find ways to incorporate them in small amounts into your outfit. Purge and organize your wardrobe

• Go through everything. Try on every single article of clothing and make sure you have close friends you trust with you. They will be able to tell you whether or not something looks good or needs to be trashed (or donated). Pay close attention to fit (is it stretched out? Too small?) and overall quality (are there any stains, rips or holes? Is it pilling?)
